Life Rules

Do not take it personally.

Always keep your promises. When in doubt, don’t promise.

Always be honest. Even if it hurts someone’s feelings. Tell the truth. Or, at least don’t lie.

Your feelings are your responsibility, not someone else’s. Deal with it.

The purpose of life is to enjoy it.

Don’t force your reality onto someone else. It is extremely rude. Compassion entails understanding someone else’s reality, taking it into account, and behaving accordingly.

If someone catches your eye, talk to that person immediately. Find out if it’s worth your time. You have the choice: in your life or out of it forever.

Refrain from attachment, to objects and to people. It all fades away in death.

Live life intensely. We all die. All fear fades away in death.

Stand up straight with your shoulders back.

Treat yourself like someone you are responsible for helping.

Make friends with people who want the best for you.

Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today.

Do not let your children do anything that makes you dislike them.

Set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world.

Pursue what is meaningful (not what is expedient).

Assume that the person you are listening to might know something you don’t.

Be precise in your speech.

Do not bother children when they are skateboarding.

Pet a cat when you encounter one on the street.
